For many years I thought being a “doer of the word” meant that I needed to work hard, initiating projects, and stay as busy as I could. I often did things at the expense of some close relationships when I tried to make people fit in a mold of my expectations. Now I realize that those projects only exhibited a veneer of spiritual activity. Instead of trusting God and waiting to see what He was doing, I was busy trying to duplicate procedures and methods I heard about that appeared to be successful in other churches and ministries. I was living in an illusion, believing that I was in control instead of Him. Now I am focusing on being instead of doing and allowing others to be who they are and accept them without condemnation. I pray for God’s grace to abide in His vine and be a fruit-bearing branch that brings Him glory, honor, and praise.
"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers."
Psalm 1:1-3
"Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
John 15:4-5
