As a father of three, it can be really easy for me to focus in on the stress and demands of providing for a family of five. From the grocery bill to clothes, school supplies, diapers, formula, sports, and everything in between, it can quickly become very overwhelming. Without fail, God has met every single one of our needs; He is always faithful.
The problem is that we live in a culture that romanticizes the “American Dream.” That is where my spirit and my flesh clash more times than not. It’s the battle of truly being content in Jesus and celebrating the many blessings He lavishes on us that are often overlooked or taken for granted. When I strip life down to what is most important, the reality quickly sets in. The reality is my kids and wife do not need more stuff. They need a father and husband who models what it looks like to pursue Jesus first above all else, trusting Him in His infinite provision and wisdom, not in my own personal desires or goals.
May we find encouragement today that God takes care of all of our needs to the point where we shouldn’t waste a minute of worry on the physical things but instead be focused on the relentless pursuit of a relationship and life centered on the person of Jesus.
