Many of us have memorized this prayer to recite in a public setting or a service. As I reflected on these verses, I noticed how Jesus is teaching us to pray this way in our secret place with Him. This prayer was designed to be a “vertical” prayer between God and me not a “horizontal” prayer between others and myself. Take a quiet moment in your day to pray the verses above and allow God’s love to cover you.
“Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.”
Matthew 6:9-13
