Patience has never been a strong suit of mine. As a husband and father, I always wanted to fix whatever problem was before me sooner than later. Whether this was personal, marital, or child issues didn’t matter. This particular Scripture sums up a transformation in me that continues to grow as my faith in God grows deeper.
About 14 years ago, my wife and I found ourselves in a bad place. Her father had suffered a severe stroke, and most of her family lived in Texas. It was decided she would move there to assist in his recovery while I remained in Michigan to sell our home and find a new position within the company I was employed with (but in Texas). The economy at the time was down in terms of both housing and employment. So, I did my best to make these both happen, and I worried. Months went by with no movement on either front.
I got down on my knees and prayed to God, “Take this suffering away from me.” God answered in His good, acceptable, and perfect timing. God’s plan was for me to wait and grow in my faith. At the time, this didn’t make sense to me, and I questioned Him. But after 11 months of waiting and a lot of praying, God’s plan came to light. Our house sold, and a job opportunity occurred THE SAME WEEK! This experience made us both realize that God had a plan all along but did not reveal it until we were healthier in our faith.
We now realize that moving to Texas was bigger than we could have imagined. We love our home, our community, and our church. The perfect will of God is His divine plan for our life.
