"What then, shall we say…If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things…who shall separate us from the love of Christ?"
Romans 8:31-32, 35

Forty-five years ago, I was privileged to attend a conference taught by the late Larry Crabb, Jr, Christian Psychologist. He made something crystal clear that has undergirded my faith in the Creator and truth that he has inspired and preserved the documents of the Bible.

Dr. Crabb said that every human being who has ever walked this planet has been in a search of two things essential to their emotional and mental wellbeing. And he said we spend most of our waking hours trying to find or reinforce our grasp on these two needs:

Security and Significance.

On my way home from the conference, I had this thought: “If this is so and God made us with these two needs, then the Bible must have something to say about my security and my significance.”

Boy howdy, does it ever. Does HE ever! I started seeing in scripture both our need to be valued and our need to be kept safe everywhere I looked…Old Testament and New. But when I look at the daily activities of human beings, I see us chasing down every road imaginable to find or reinforce security and significance. And here is the clear reality: Other than the one narrow road, all others pull us up short…they are dead ends (literally).

Romans 8 is a scenic walk down that narrow road.  It starts with NO CONDEMNATION and ends with NO SEPARATION.  And packed in between is our secured life in the Spirit that holds us within God’s peace and love and glory.

If you are walking that road, you are safe and valuable.  No one can take that away.  There is no shadow of death in that valley; no insignificant man or woman living in that place.

Today, I hope you seriously consider this: You carry the solution to the biggest problem of everyone on earth.

How about that?
