Have you seen or experienced the way that parents turn to their child quickly when they hear them crying? It could be a crowded playground with lots of kids and families running around but parents immediately know their child’s cry even among the other noise and chaos. These verses remind me of how God is that way with us. In our cries and calling out to Him, He not only hears us but He turns His attention towards us. I see God’s kindness and father‘s heart for us in this. It can be hard for me to believe when I’m in the moment of desperation like this psalm describes, but I know and have seen that God does show up in those places. He picks us up out of the mess and places us on steady ground. His attention is on us and His love pours over us.
As a result, we have a new song to sing. A new story of the way that God showed up and worked through difficult and dark circumstances. A new understanding to share and come alongside others that are in that similar place. A new way to witness to how God is faithful and that others can put their wholehearted trust in Him.
God, I thank you for hearing our every cry. Thank you for leaning in, even when we are hiding from you. You know us and understand completely everything that we could go through on earth. And yet you deliver us and place our feet on sturdy ground. Help us to see where you’re at work even while we’re waiting to see and understand the details of your plan for us. We choose to trust you today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
