"A song of ascents. Of David. My heart is not proud, LORD, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me."
Psalm131:1

In a world that constantly pushes us to achieve, strive, and conquer big things, the psalmist offers us a refreshing viewpoint. A great temptation for me is that I find myself caught up in worries about the future, unfulfilled goals, or even complex theological questions that seem beyond my understanding. It’s easy to get wrapped up in my own pride over what I think I know or to feel anxious about what I can’t control.

However, David, as both a king and a warrior, teaches us about humility. He recognizes that there are “great matters” that are simply too wonderful for him to grasp. This isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a wise acknowledgement. He doesn’t ignore life’s challenges but chooses not to let them overwhelm him with pride or distress.

Think about the “great matters” that might be on your mind. Maybe it’s concerns about global issues, trying to manage every aspect of your life, or desiring a level of control that only God truly possesses. When we let go of these “great matters” and hand them over to the One who knows what to do, we can discover a deep sense of peace. We learn to trust in His wisdom, timing, and ability to handle everything.

So today, take a moment to reflect on what “great matters” might be weighing on your heart and mind. Are they causing you anxiety or making you feel prideful? Like David, try to release them into God’s capable hands. Join me in finding comfort in knowing that some things are indeed too big for us, and that’s where God’s greatness really shines.
