When Jesus breathed his last breath, and his work on the cross was finished, the veil in the temple leading into the Holy of Holies was torn from top to bottom. Prior to this, the high priest could only go in once a year on the Day of Atonement. The veil being torn signified a New Covenant was in effect, with a new High Priest, Jesus Christ, who entered into the Holy of Holies in the true Temple in heaven. Now, his blood is sprinkled on the Mercy Seat, giving us boldness to enter the Holy of Holies and commune with Him continually, not just once a year. God is the one who tore the veil from top to bottom and brought the Old Covenant to an end. I’m so grateful that we have a New Covenant with our Heavenly Father ratified by the blood of Christ.
“The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, ‘Surely this man was the Son of God!’”
