As a little girl I wanted nothing more than to be a mom and to this day it’s one of my most favorite things that I do. It’s such an incredible opportunity that comes with great responsibility. In this passage we feel the weight of that responsibility. We are actually told what not to do before we are told what to do. We are given specific instructions not to exasperate our kids. In other words we are not supposed to abuse our position by provoking our children towards anger and with cruel behavior. This doesn’t mean disciplining your child or your child experiencing consequences. This means allowing your behavior to cross a line of sinful wrongdoing towards your child. Instead, we are to “bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” Well, what does that mean? There is so much information in the bible. How are we supposed to know what’s what? Believe it or not the bible covers it all..love, forgiveness, marriage, friendship, priorities, trust, hope. It’s all in there. Everything we need to know, God covers it. In order to train our kids in the way that they should go we need to first follow Him and He will take care of the rest.
"Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord."
