Sometimes, I emphasize the power of Jesus’ redemption and grace displayed here to Peter, so much so that I glance over the very real and gruesome result of Peter’s responses in this passage. Yes, Jesus used him for big and powerful Kingdom work…the literal building of Christ’s church, but it also meant a brutal form of stretching for Peter, including immense persecution to the point of death. Peter pressed through hard times.
While my hardships aren’t nearly as extreme, rereading this passage helped me stop to take a moment and reflect on what helps me navigate difficult things. Remembering God’s promises in His Word. Reflecting on the ways He’s come through before. As I reflect, I also think about how thankful I am for my Community Group and close friends who have interceded for me, encouraged me, and helped pick me up when I’m in the midst of hardship. The work ahead of us will not always be easy, but I’m grateful for those God has surrounded me with.
Lord, bless those in my life who graciously and intentionally love me through the hard things of life. Please help me, Lord, be that same support as I seek to carry burdens for others as we ultimately seek to follow Your will.
