Meditating on this passage, I think of the totality of being a servant of Christ. From the day we say yes to Him, our life no longer belongs to us. Living in a free and prosperous nation, we enjoy the benefits of making our own choices and working towards the life we’d like to build for ourselves. This can be very distracting and sometimes at odds with our relationship to Christ. This scripture, along with others, reminds us that if Christ is truly the Lord of our life, then He is our decision-maker. A good measure that I’ve found beneficial: when there’s an area of my life lacking God’s peace, it’s an indicator that I need to pause and consider it with the Lord. It could be in my relationships, finances, how my time is spent, areas of eating/drinking, or any area. When my will aligns with God’s will, there is peace. That’s not to say there won’t be trials, but the peace He provides is my key to knowing I’m surrendered and centered in Him.
The Lord looks after His servants and knows what is best for them. Is there any area in your life where you are experiencing a lack of peace?
