Many times I can focus exclusively on my own outward actions as a way to validate my relationship with God. However, looking back on the Sermon on the Mount this series, I am reminded how much God looks at the heart. In different seasons of my life, it can feel more difficult to invest my whole heart into my relationship with God. When that happens, my temptation is to just focus on “doing” for God instead of really being with Him. I’m so thankful that He is always faithful to convict me and remind me of His heart towards me. My prayer is that we take the time to pause and focus on just being in communion with Him today, before we jump to all of the “doing” that fills up so much of our days.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’”
