The Greatest Story

Cam Beck // From the Daily Devotionals
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made."
John 1:1-3
"But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name."
John 20:31
As humans, I believe there's a reason we are so deeply drawn to stories. I believe the story of God sending a rescue for humanity through his son, Jesus Christ, is, in many ways, a distant blueprint for so many stories we see in big motion pictures and popular books. There's a hero who sees the brokenness of people, and there's a villain who wants to corrupt everything. And oftentimes, the hero must sacrifice something significant to save humanity and defeat the villain once and for all. As fallen humans, we recognize the brokenness that exists within and around us. Deep within our souls, we know it.
Our hearts crave a good hero/villain origin story too… (My guess as to why there are so many prequel movies and books.) The Gospel of John goes above and beyond what our minds can comprehend in its origin story of Jesus. It shows us that Jesus' birth in Bethlehem was nowhere near his origin; he had no beginning. He was. He is. He always will be. John's words display the profound divinity of the incarnate, Almighty God.
He was the hero who stepped onto the scene that humanity didn't recognize. He was the hero who sacrificed his life so that we may have life in his name. These words are written so that we may believe Jesus is the Messiah, the hero.
As you read the Bible today and every day, I challenge you to look for Jesus in every chapter, in the Old and New Testaments. He is everywhere in the Scriptures, and He is everywhere in your life. The evidence of his desire to encounter you and me is endless.
Buckle up, my friends. Encountering Jesus is the greatest storyline you will ever experience.
