One Thing Over Texas State

Emily Mulch // Crosstalk College Ministry Leader
I must confess, going into One Thing, I was exhausted and a bit unsure that anyone would come. We spent many grueling hours in the August sun having conversations and handing out cards; more often than not, we watched people rip them up, drop them on the ground, throw them away, or make fun of us as they walked off. By the time Thursday came around, I was pretty discouraged.
I had hope that God would use this night, and I knew deep down that even if all of the work that went into this night brought even one person home, it would all be worth it.
Soon after we prayed, we opened up the doors. Again, I found myself watching people walk away. I think I understand God's sorrow a bit better now. However, for every person who walked past, at least one stayed. I walked a freshman in and chatted with her, met a couple more freshmen, and then, by the grace of God, I turned around. There were hundreds of people coming in. Sure, some of them were returning Crosstalk members, but many were brand new faces.
As the night wore on, I could hear their voices worshiping. God is so good. At the end of the night, we watched in awe as God called many students to Him for the first time. It was beautiful. All I could think in that moment was how little I could see during the week, and how much good work God was doing with my meager and discouraged outreach. He reminded me yet again how great He is and just how powerful His voice is, even if it's coming through someone like me.
