"God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 5:8
"For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again.”
1 Corinthians 5:14-15

I can understand why God loves Jesus. He is everything that is good, righteous and spiritual.

But why me? I am the complete opposite of Him. Nothing good can be found in me, that is, in my sinful nature. Without God’s mercy and grace I am a self-centered, greedy and egotistical sinner.

I have a rebellious nature that continually rises up in me and wants to go its own way. I can’t fight it because then I begin to focus on it rather than the Lord. That is the very thing my ego wants me to do. When it tries to take control I have only one thing that enables me to overcome it.

The cross, upon which Jesus died, gives me the power, inspiration and courage to persevere as I follow Him. I thank God for demonstrating His love for me at Calvary because I have no greater reason to believe He loves me than that.
