“Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.”
Matthew 5:25-26
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.”
1 John 1:9-10

I have two primary adversaries in my life and both of them are conquered because of what Jesus did on the Cross. Satan was defeated when my pardon was paid for by the precious blood of the Lamb of God. My ego was crucified with Christ so that I can live my new life in Him by legally considering myself to have died with Jesus when He died. This does not mean that they sit idly by, resigned to let me live in uncontested fellowship with the Lord. On the contrary, they are persistent adversaries who are easily defeated simply by the word of my testimony and identity with Jesus Christ. When Satan accuses me of something that is true in my past, I settle the matter quickly by agreeing with Him. However, it doesn’t stop there. I refer Him to my lawyer, also known as my advocate, and tell Satan to take it up with Him. Jesus hasn’t lost a case and I don’t believe He ever will. However, if I try to justify or rationalize my guilt, defending myself instead, I will lose every time. I’m so grateful for God’s love and grace that keeps me free from Satan’s bondage.
