"Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, 'Woman, here is your son,' and to the disciple, 'Here is your mother.' From that time on, this disciple took her into his home."
John 19:25-27

Jesus, though he was God in the flesh, submitted himself to earthly parents and honored them perfectly. Even in his final moments on the cross, he ensured that his mother, Mary, would be cared for by the apostle John.

We see in Jesus, the perfect example of honoring our parents. When he was twelve years old, he amazed the religious leaders with his understanding of Scripture. Yet he returned home with his father and mother and demonstrated perfect honor as he grew in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and man.

His whole life was one of honoring both His Heavenly Father and His earthly parents. Jesus’ meekness and humility were the primary qualities we need to honor our parents. He left us an example to follow in His steps.

Affirmation:

By God’s grace, I will follow Jesus and honor my parents in meekness and humility.
