“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7

It’s funny, Philippians 4:6-7 are some of the most quoted verses in churches today. And yet, I feel like I have never needed to cling to this truth more. No matter what season of life I’m in, God’s word is timely. It never comes back null or void. My community group has been memorizing verses in Philippians 4 together as a way to draw closer to the Father together. I don’t know about you… but anxious thoughts can certainly come easily for me, especially during busy seasons. I used to read verses like this and think to myself, “Ugh, I just stop being anxious”. I would feel frustration towards myself for feeling like my mind was wandering with worries. But the more I have walked with Jesus, the more I now understand that every word he speaks is not to shame me, but to cover me in the wings of what he knows is best for me.

The thoughts I have reveal the condition of my heart, and instead of trying to create a solution or manipulate an outcome, I am learning to let him replace my imagination of anxious thoughts with requests, prayers, and thanksgiving unto him. I am learning to let my wandering mind bring me right back to the arms of my Father. Every time I lean into him, my safety and my refuge, he is faithful to bring this peace that transcends all understanding. God is not slow to keep his promises to us, he cannot deny who he is. If you are struggling with anxiety, or even just worrisome thoughts today, I encourage you to simply talk to God about whatever is heavy on your heart and mind. He cares for you so deeply, and is faithful to bring the peace that surpasses all understanding.
