Have you ever tried to understand how high the heavens are above the earth? How about trying to quantify God’s love for us? Or comprehend how far Jesus has removed our sin from us?
The heavens symbolize an immeasurable distance above the earth; set apart, vast, beyond full human comprehension. So is God’s love! The east and west never intersect, they are infinitely moving away from each other. So is our sin removed from us! We can’t understand it completely, but I think that’s the point. Eternal, reassuring, permanent closeness with God and separation from our sin.
It’s both for everyone who believes and incredibly personal. It’s an amazingly comforting reassurance of God’s mercy and His intentional forgetfulness of our sin.
