Thank God! Right before this, in verse 14, the apostle Paul says that instead of living with sin as our master and trying to “do” for God under the law, we live under the freedom that comes from God’s grace. The freedom that comes from being completely, undeservedly, and personally forgiven by God. Given a completely new life, a life ruled by God’s grace!
That type of life sounds like one worth living, a life to the full. However, the choice of how we live is still ours to make. Whether we choose to obey God (and as a result live God’s way) or make choices (big or small) that obey the standards of this world instead will determine how full our lives are.
Being reminded of that today, having the opportunity to make that choice, is another gift of grace from God. Let us each consider what obedience to God looks like today. How does that obedience involve both heart attitude and action?
