"For the eyes of the Lord roam throughout the earth to show himself strong for those who are wholeheartedly devoted to him. You have been foolish in the matter. Therefore, you have wars from now on."
2 Chronicles 16:9

From a young age, we are taught to play it safe. We have been taught to weigh all of our options, not to get too excited about something, and to most certainly not put all of our eggs into one basket. We’re taught that if it’s too risky, don’t bother. Don’t stake your well-being, let alone your entire life, on one thing. Many of us, myself included, have adopted this same mindset towards the Lord. We put borders and limits on how much we choose to be devoted to God. We have this innate desire to be protected, so we can turn that desire into attempting to protect ourselves. But by God’s grace, I’m learning that the love of God is something worth going all in on.

God deeply desires that we give him 100% of our attention and affection. Why? So he can show us how strong, powerful, healing, and dependable he is. So we can know the great peace and comfort of being whole-heartedly devoted to him. The Lord wants to show us his glory through a deep, intimate relationship with himself. We all fall into the trap of playing it safe with God. But as we walk through life today, I encourage you to ask Jesus what bringing those walls down with him would be like. You don’t have to run; you don’t have to hide. This is one basket you can put all your eggs into; this is a place where perfect love casts out all fear. Today, at this moment, let’s not settle for Jesus being less than our everything.

Jesus, we love you and recognize your redeeming work for us on the cross. We don’t want to play it safe with you, because you gave everything for us. Help us to go all in with you and be fully devoted to you today. Give us the grace to focus on today alone and let you hold the rest. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
