"I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me."
John 17: 22-23

We all know relationships can be complicated. It’s not always easy to stay connected, even with people we care about. Misunderstandings or unmet expectations can create distance—sometimes without us even realizing it. That’s what makes this moment in Jesus’ prayer so striking: He asks that His people live in real, lasting unity.

The line that stands out is: “I in them and you in me.” This is where unity begins—not with how we treat each other, but with where we’re rooted. Jesus invites us into the relationship He shares with the Father. That’s the starting point. And from there, how we live with one another begins to take shape.

This kind of unity doesn’t mean everyone’s the same. It doesn’t ignore tension or pretend everything is fine. But it does mean we’re connected to the same source. When we live from that connection, we grow in patience, humility, and grace—not because we’re trying to manage conflict, but because we’re receiving something deeper.

God doesn’t ask us to hold everything together. He’s already doing that. And when we remember that, even for a moment, it can change how we approach the people around us—with less pressure, more grace, and a little more peace.
