Do you ever think about what Jesus is doing right now? At this very moment, Jesus is reigning and sitting at the right hand of the Father. And one day He is coming back for His bride… that’s us! This reality fuels me; I feel zealous to tell the world about Jesus, but in the midst of that, I cannot forget that living on mission also means living on guard against distractions and deceptions. Unfortunately, the reality of this broken world is that we are not exempt from becoming distracted or drifting in our faith. It doesn’t mean that we are loved any less by our Heavenly Father or that we need to become discouraged, but rather it gives us another reason to see why we need Him all the more. How funny, yet sweet is it that we need Him to grow in the gift He gave to us.
Friends, I am reminded by Peter in these verses that the Gospel is the only secure footing that I’m going to find in my time here on earth. Jesus is coming back one day, and I want to live as if that day is going to be tomorrow. We don’t need to be overwhelmed by this reality, all we need is to simply choose Jesus today. Choose His ways, ground yourself in His reality, choose to listen to His voice over the others, choose Him in all things… and trust that growing in grace and knowledge will be a byproduct of beholding His love.
