“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.”
Philippians 2:5-7

This passage encourages us to adopt the mindset that defined our Lord and Savior, Jesus. Think about the incredible power and glory He had as God. He could have easily held onto His divine rights and demanded all the honor and recognition in the world. Instead, He took a completely different approach. He “made himself nothing”—not because He abandoned His divinity, but because He chose to set aside its outward display and privileges. He embraced humility, taking on the nature of a servant and becoming fully human. This wasn’t a step down; it was a beautiful act of self-giving love.

So, what does this mean for us as we interact with each other? It suggests that true greatness in God’s kingdom isn’t about self-promotion or asserting our rights, but rather about serving others with humility. It invites us to let go of our own agendas, our need for recognition, and the desire to be in control. It’s about being willing to step back, serve in the background, and put others’ needs ahead of our own.

Today, take a moment to think about areas in your life where you might be holding onto your “advantages” or “rights.” How can you embrace the mindset of Christ, practicing humility and serving others just like He did? Let His example inspire you to live a life filled with radical, self-giving love!
