"And God spoke all these words: 'I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.'"
Exodus 20:1-2

Here at the very beginning of Exodus 20, before saying any “shall” or “shall not,” God reminds His people who He is:

He is Personal – the Lord your God

He is Active – who brought you out of Egypt

He is Deliverer – out of the land of slavery

There is a phrase commonly used at Cypress Creek Church: God wants so much more for you than from you. I think that is exactly what He is trying to say right here in these verses.

“Remember all the things I’ve done — I am your personal, active Deliverer. Partner with me through covenant.”

This is worth pausing for. I want to keep God at the forefront of my mind, so that in the moments when He asks me to do something uncomfortable, counter-cultural, or totally weird, I am more willing to step out in faith.

Which of these three attributes of God do you need a reminder of this week? Ask God to show you as you step deeper into covenant with Him.
