"Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God."
Romans 8:26-27

Another precious benefit of the Spirit of God indwelling us is that He strengthens our prayers. As a prayer pastor, I’m very aware that there are so many believers who lack confidence in praying, be it between you and God or praying openly with others. I’ve been there myself. I believe this is one of Satan’s greatest weapons against us. He actively opposes our prayer life because he does not want us to walk in communion with God.

Have you ever watched a sportscaster interview an athlete that doesn’t speak English? The athlete will often have an interpreter to communicate his responses to the interviewer. God knows the depths of our hearts. The Holy Spirit acts as our Interpreter when we pray because so many times, our own hurts, judgments, fears, etc., distort what or how we bring things before the Lord. He intercedes for us according to the will of God. So when my prayers are weak, selfish, and fleshly, He purifies and aligns them with the will of the Lord. I don’t know about you, but that relieves me. I can bring God anything, no matter how confused I may be, and the Holy Spirit makes sense of it. My next choice then is, will I trust Him? Will I trust God’s timing when I want to see Him move? Will I trust Him when He gives me a “no child”?

Whether your prayer life is strong and confident or timid and weak, take some time today to thank the Holy Spirit for being your Helper, your Interpreter. Let’s bless God’s heart today with our gratitude.
