Abide

In January, PiNK celebrated 10 years of women’s ministry. In those 10 years, hundreds of women have been reached and ministered to. In the Spring I felt like it was time to hit refresh and re-launch a women’s gathering with a new name. As I prayed, God gave me the word … Abide.

John 15:4 (ESV) says, “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.”

A couple of months ago my son brought me this oversized branch that had fallen off of a tree. Normally, I would have said go throw it in the burn pile…but God prompted me to explain John chapter 15 to him.

In this passage, Jesus talks about how He is the true vine and we are the branches. He talks about how He cuts away the branches that don’t bear fruit and how He prunes the branches that do. He also talks about how His Father is glorified when we bear fruit and how much He loves us. I encourage you to read the full chapter this week.

So, instead of tossing the branch, I left it on our back porch so our family could be reminded of the spiritual significance of that withering branch. It is a perfect visual of what happens when we personally fall away from our source of life, Jesus.

Abiding in Christ doesn’t mean perfection or performance, it means yielding to His authority and walking with Him every step of the way.

Together, let’s Abide in Christ.
